Funding and Collaborations

Thank you for supporting the Shoshoni Senior Center. The following are the funding sources and collaborations that make what we do possible. This includes our Nutrition Programs, Activities, and all of the other ways that we benefit the seniors and community of Shoshoni. Most of our grants require a percentage of local match funding, so fundraising and donations are a necessary part of fulfilling our mission. Thank you!

Ongoing Funding

Local Match Awards

Local Income

  • Program Income is the voluntary participant contributions for meals, transportation, and support services. Specifically, this money is from the gray donation box on our front counter for meals and the donation boxes for coffee, exercise equipment, and office services.
  • Donations: From individuals, businesses, and other organizations, including the Martha Petersdorf Hospital Trust, Contango, B-2 Wyoming, and Shoshoni’s Christmas Club.
  • Memorial Donations are donated in the memory of someone who has passed away. These donations are deposited into a separate account and are used for memorial service expenses and board-approved improvements to the Senior Center, rather than general operations.
  • Newsletter Subscriptions are $12/year to help with costs associated with printing and mailing our newsletter.
  • Shoshoni Recreation District #24 rents our basement yearlong to put on their annual Haunted House, and other Building Use fees.
  • Smith’s Inspiring Donations: You can help us whenever you shop at Smith’s by linking your Smith’s Rewards Card to Shoshoni Senior Citizens Center (organization QX859).

Fundraising and Annual Events

  • The Street Fair is our fundraiser in early September. We do this in the Town Plaza park across the highway from the Senior Center. We serve our popular fry bread tacos, host a variety of vendor booths, bring out the Spin to Win wheel, and enjoy live performances by our own local talent, Rhiannon.
  • The Winter Craft Bazaar is our annual fundraiser in late November or early December. We fit as many vendors as we can into the community room, serve our crowd-favorite chicken fried steak, bid on silent auction items, and Rhiannon sings us Christmas songs.
  • In October, we do a Bake Sale, serving hot beverages and goodies to those waiting in line for the Rec’s Haunted House. We also participate in the Trunk or Treat at the elementary school’s harvest festival.
  • The Senior Center and First Baptist Church host a Friendship Dinner for Journey of Hope in June. This is a group of young men bicycling across the country for disability awareness.

Partners and Collaborations

  • We are a Partner of the Food Bank of Wyoming. They help our budget go further, and we help give those in our community access to needed food and necessities. We usually receive the Food Bank delivery on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Our purchasing power with the Food Bank increased significantly recently thanks to a WCDA grant.
  • Cent$ible Nutrition shares information, recipes, and sometimes food with us to distribute to our patrons.

Specific Funding Awards

  • Rocky Mountain Power Foundation for specific projects, including cleaning supplies during the pandemic, replacing office computers, building drainage improvements, upgrading presentation equipment, emergency supplies and equipment, replacing chairs in the community room, and towards our daily soup (a patron favorite!).
  • Wyoming Hunger Initiative awarded us Infrastructure Grants so that we could purchase kitchen equipment and fund our garden, additional grocery money, and donations of meat.

Help us serve our seniors!

We deeply appreciate all of the funding, donations, partnerships, and collaborations that enable us to provide important services to seniors. In short, we could not do this without you! If you are interested in helping us serve seniors, please let us know.

We are also always happy to help connect patrons with other services that might help them. We have flyers and brochures about a variety of events, services, and other local information in our entrance foyer for patrons and other visitors to peruse.
